Overview
At AXA XL, we value our colleagues and believe in the value of taking time off so you can rest and recharge. It’s part of having a healthy work/life balance, and we’re committed to offering our colleagues opportunities to take time off for personal needs, both large and small.
Additional details about your time off options are available in the Time off and leaves handbook and on the Other leaves page of this site.
Time off options
We have an array of time off options, including:
Vacation time
Vacation eligibility for full-time colleagues is based on band and years of service (based on your anniversary date) according to the chart below. Vacation can be taken in half or full day increments and are accrued evenly over twelve months. You must obtain your manager’s approval for any vacation time requested.
Band | Length of Service (0 – 4 Years) |
Length of Service (5 – 9 Years) |
Length of Service (10 – 19 Years) |
Length of Service (20+ Years) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Band A | 15 | 15 | 20 | 25 |
Band B | 15 | 17 | 20 | 25 |
Band C & D | 20 | 20 | 25 | 25 |
Band E | 25 | 25 | 25 | 25 |
If you work part-time, your vacation time will be adjusted based on the number of hours you work. The same adjustment that is applied to full-time employees' vacation entitlement will be applied to yours. For example, if you work 30 hours per week and the full-time vacation entitlement is 20 days, your part-time vacation entitlement would be calculated as follows: 30 hours / 37.5 hours = 0.80 x 20 days = 16 days
Use it or lose it!
You can carry over up to five vacation days after December 31 into the new year, and all other unused vacation days will be forfeited. Your carryover days must be taken by April 30 of the following year; after April 30, your carryover days will be forfeited.
AXA XL complies with all state regulations, if you live in a state with specific policies on vacation time and carry over, please reference the Time Off and Leave Handbook.
Sick time
Your attendance is highly valued at AXA XL, as it is contributes to your overall performance. However, we recognize that sometimes you may not be able to work because of illness. We want to assure you that we value your well-being, and that’s why we offer unlimited sick time for all colleagues, so you can focus on feeling better.
If you find yourself sick or injured and unable to come to work, it is essential to:
- Notify your manager promptly to ensure proper coverage for your role; and
- if you are uncertain about your return-to-work date, we kindly request that you contact your manager daily to keep them informed.
Please note that if you are absent for three consecutive working days without notifying your manager, AXA XL will consider it a voluntary resignation effective at the end of the third working day.
Personal days
In addition to your vacation time, all full-time colleagues are eligible for two personal days per year. Part-time colleagues working at least 20 hours weekly are eligible for one personal day per year. These personal days do not carry over into the next year, so use them or they will be forfeited.

All colleagues can take their birthday off from work. If your birthday falls on a weekend or public holiday, you can choose to take a day off in the week immediately preceding or following your birthday.
