AXA XL is committed to supporting the health and safety of colleagues with the latest information on the coronavirus (COVID-19) response in the U.S. To help you and your family get the care and support you need during these challenging times, review the information on this page to understand the benefits and resources that may be especially valuable to you right now.

Get at-home COVID-19 tests at no cost

Testing for COVID-19 can help slow the spread of this highly contagious virus and help protect our colleagues, friends, and loved ones. If you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed, performing a rapid antigen test at home is an easy and quick way to confirm a possible COVID-19 diagnosis.

It’s important to note that self-administered at-home COVID-19 tests do not fulfill the testing requirement under the AXA XL return to work policy.

Effective January 15, 2022, the cost of up to eight FDA-approved at-home tests per covered family member, per 30-day period will be covered by CVS Caremark if you’re enrolled in prescription drug coverage through AXA XL.

How to get your free COVID-19 tests

  • If you buy tests at a participating in-network pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens that can bill your prescription coverage directly, there will be no out-of-pocket cost to you for certain FDA-approved tests. Be sure to go to the pharmacy counter where you fill prescriptions, so your coverage can be verified. Some pharmacies may not be able to process claims for OTC COVID-19 tests at the pharmacy counter, even if they are in-network. If this happens, you can pay for the test, then submit a request for reimbursement afterwards by following the instructions below.
    • For your convenience, you can use the CVS website or CVS Pharmacy app to find the nearest pharmacy that can bill your prescription coverage directly and has tests available. You will be able to confirm your coverage and place an order online. To begin, click or tap on “At-home COVID-19 tests,” and then select “Request at-home tests” under “Get tests paid for up front.” When your order is ready, you will receive a confirmation from CVS Pharmacy, and your order will be waiting at the front store register. (Online orders cannot be picked up at the drive-thru.)
  • If you buy tests from a non-participating pharmacy, store or online retailer that is not able to bill your prescription coverage directly, you will pay out of pocket and request reimbursement afterwards (up to $12 per test). It may take up to 30 days to process your request. If your request is approved, you will receive a check in the mail. Log in to www.caremark.com and look under “Plan & Benefits” for “Submit Prescription Claim” to find instructions on submitting your at-home COVID-19 test reimbursement claim.

Important things to keep in mind

  • Some at-home tests may be sold in multi-test kits. For example, if you have purchased a kit containing two tests, you will be reimbursed for two tests and these two tests will count against your eight test maximum purchase limit per 30-day period.
  • You do not need a prescription from your doctor to receive the OTC COVID-19 tests.
  • Tests purchased before January 15, 2022, are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • Self-administered at-home COVID-19 tests do not fulfill the testing requirement under the AXA XL return to work policy.

Use telehealth for more than medical care

Your telehealth benefit through Cigna Behavioral Health and MDLIVE includes convenient, affordable access to licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, counselors, and therapists who can help you navigate a wide range of personal issues including anxiety, addiction, depression, family difficulties, and more. You can receive access to virtual counseling through MDLIVE or Cigna’s network of behavioral health providers.

To schedule an appointment through MDLIVE, go to myCigna.com or call 888-726-3171. To find a Cigna Behavioral Health network provider, visit myCigna.com, go to “Find Care & Costs” and enter “Virtual counselor” under Doctor by Type. Or, call the number on your Cigna ID card.

Making changes to your benefits

If you experience a life status change— such as if your spouse loses his or her employer benefits, or if you have a baby or get married — you can make changes to your benefits coverage within 30 days of the event. Keep in mind that the changes you make to your benefits must be related to your event. Be sure to report the change to the Benefits Department within 30 days of the Qualified Life Event date to make a change to your benefits.


Well-being & life assistance

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Talking through concerns and sharing your fears about the coronavirus with a licensed professional may help reduce any anxiety and help you feel better. In addition, you may face additional caregiver responsibilities, like having your child home from school or caring for an adult. The EAP has licensed clinicians to talk to, as well as resources available on myCigna.com, to help you in your time of need.

The EAP is available to all AXA XL colleagues and eligible dependents, regardless of whether you are enrolled in an AXA XL medical plan. You can contact the EAP any day, any time at 877-622-4327 – at no additional cost to you.

AXA XL has partnered with Lyra, giving you another option to find support that fits your needs. Through Lyra, you have greater access to in-network in-person behavioral and mental health providers with shorter wait times for appointments. Financial benefits

Time off for COVID-19

Below is guidance with regard to how time out of the office for COVID-19 related illnesses and restrictions will be covered:

  • Your first 14 calendar days is conditionally approved as paid time if you are sick or directed to quarantine. No medical certification required for the first 14 calendar days of absence if you are sick or directed to quarantine.
  • Ten Family Care Days annually are available for care of all eligible family members combined (children, spouse or domestic partner, parents and siblings) who are sick or required to be home due to school/day care closures. Days taken should be entered in absence system or tracked with a COVID-19 reference. Family Care Days may also be used in half-day increments if needed.

Short-term disability

If you have complications from COVID-19 and it extends beyond 14 calendar days, then your absence will go to short-term disability (STD) and you would apply to MetLife. STD schedule of payment applies.

Note: FMLA (Federal unpaid job-protected Medical and Family Leave) time will run concurrently with any disability time taken and may be applied for at the same time you apply for STD.
